Meet The Team

Keith Baar, PhD
Co-Founder
Dr. Keith Baar is a leading expert in molecular mechanisms of muscle and tendon adaptation to exercise, nutrition, age, and disease. From his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, where he identified key signals for muscle hypertrophy, to his current role as a Professor of Molecular Exercise Physiology at UC Davis, he has dedicated his career to understanding and optimizing human performance. His research builds on a foundation of practical experience, including coaching strength and conditioning with the University of Michigan Football Team and advising teams on improving performance and return to play across all major sports leagues. Keith’s Functional Molecular Biology (FMB) Lab has made fundamental discoveries about the load and nutrition needed to optimize tendon and ligament function. The result of this research is more than 160 peer-reviewed articles in journals from the Journal of Applied Physiology to Nature and the creation of SinewUS.

Alec Avey, PhD
Co-Founder
Dr. Alec Avey is a postdoctoral scholar at UC Davis whose research focuses on the role of aging, disease, and exercise on tendon and ligament physiology. He was awarded the Business Development Fellowship at the Mike and Renée Child Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UC Davis where he is enrolled in MBA coursework and participates in events designed to help drive his entrepreneurial journey. As a Co-Founder of SinewUS, Alec utilizes his research background to help prototype devices designed to revolutionize connective tissue health, while leveraging his evolving knowledge of business management and product innovation to shape the early stages of SinewUS.
